Why do tyres have to be filled with air and not rubber all round?
Actually there are tires which are made from solid rubber and don’t need to be filled with air. They're called solid tire.
Since this kind of tire is fully rubber it is very heavy. Solid tires usually support heavy vehicles such as forklifts
As for passenger cars, its is not efficient since a huge amount of power will be required to move the tire, which will make the vehicle not fuel efficient.
Also, the air inside the tire can reduce vibration.
